Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White is reportedly interested in completing a summer move to Manchester United.

According to a report by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have been handed a major boost in pursuit of Ben White. The 23-year-old English centre-back is open to the prospect of making the switch to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, although Brighton & Hove Albion will be reluctant to part ways with him.

Ben White had been a hot property in the transfer market last summer following an impressive loan spell with Leeds United. The Whites had been among several clubs keen on signing the youngster before he ended up staying put at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls have benefitted immensely from the services of the player, who has made 28 Premier League appearances, missing just one game when available this season. Having become a regular at Brighton, White has impressed with his versatility and tenacity, which has seemingly alerted a number of clubs again, including Manchester United.

Manchester United are keen on bolstering the heart of their defence in the summer transfer window, partly due to the fact that Harry Maguire has not had a constant partner this season due to the fitness issues that have plagued Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly. While both Lindelof and Bailly have impressed for large parts when fit, their injury troubles have hampered them considerably.

That has, in turn, also impacted their consistency on the odd occasion and with Maguire also prone to an error here and there, it is not hard to see why Manchester United could be looking for a top-class centre-back. To that end, the likes of Raphael Varane and Pau Torres are among the targets for the Red Devils.

In addition, Ben White has also been extensively monitored by Manchester United, who have now been handed a boost in his pursuit, as the player is open to making the switch to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. Valued at around £35 million, United might not have any major qualms about shelling out the transfer fee.

However, it is Brighton & Hove Albion’s eagerness to keep hold of White that could prove to be a stumbling block for the Red Devils. What now remains to be seen is if Manchester United can reach an agreement with the Seagulls over a possible summer transfer or if they are forced to turn their attention to one of their other targets.
