Transfer News: Real Madrid, Manchester City set to battle for Harry Kane

Real Madrid and Manchester City are reportedly vying for the signature of Harry Kane, who could leave Tottenham this coming summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Harry Kane has once again become the subject of interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City over a move in the summer transfer window. The English international is open to leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane has gone on to become one of the most complete forwards in the game since enjoying his breakthrough campaign with Tottenham Hotspur in 2013/14. Over the last eight years or so, he has been the single-most influential member in Spurs’ first-team setup while also having gone on to become the captain of the England national side.

A fabulous record of 215 goals and 46 assists in 327 appearances to boot, it goes without saying that he is an all-time great for Spurs. But, amid Tottenham’s continued struggles to mount a challenge for silverware, it has been suggested that Kane is ready to part ways with the north London club in search of trophies. This has piqued the interest of Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Real Madrid have been reported to be in the market for an attacking reinforcement ahead of the summer transfer window, with Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe being their primary targets. Failure to land either of the two, though, would see them turn their attention to Kane. The keenness to sign a striker is not unfounded either, owing to the inconsistencies of Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic.

With Karim Benzema now 33, Real Madrid need a succession plan for the Frenchman, making Kane a viable target for them. Manchester City, on the other hand, have a more straightforward reason to pursue a move for Kane, with Sergio Aguero destined to depart the Etihad this summer when his contract expires.

Like Real Madrid, Manchester City are also chasing a move for Haaland, but with the Norwegian striker commanding competition, it is prudent for the Citizens to keep their options open, although the pursuit of Kane could well be complicated considering Tottenham might block a move.

Indeed, Haaland is reported to be intent on joining Real Madrid, meaning a move for Kane might not come to fruition if they do land the Borussia Dortmund star. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Los Blancos have to shift their focus on to Kane or if Manchester City get a clearer run at him instead.
