Transfer News: Tammy Abraham on West Ham radar

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Tammy Abraham from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Daily Star, Tammy Abraham is featuring on West Ham United’s shortlist of targets of strikers ahead of the summer transfer window. The Chelsea striker is a part of a three-man list, with Eddie Nketiah and Ivan Toney also emerging on the Hammers’ radar.

Tammy Abraham has been a part of Chelsea since 2004 and subsequently made massive strides within the famed academy at the west London club before breaking into the first-team setup in 2016. However, it took the Englishman three loan spells before he finally enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Blues.

2019/20 turned out to be a superb season for Abraham, who was Chelsea’s top scorer last term, but he has seen his stock fall in the ongoing campaign. With Timo Werner now onboard at Chelsea and Olivier Giroud constantly pushing for starts, Abraham has had to suffice with sharing game-time at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, the 23-year-old has managed to start just 18 of the 38 games that Chelsea have played so far this season. While he has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, he still continues to be rated quite highly, with West Ham United keen on signing him, as per the report.

Sebastien Haller departed the London Stadium in the January transfer window, joining Ajax, leaving Michail Antonio as the only striker at David Moyes’s disposal. While West Ham tried to sign Youssef En-Nesyri this past winter, they were unable to add to Moyes’s options and are set to return to the market for a striker.

Abraham is one of three strikers that West Ham are now targeting for the summer transfer window, with Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Brentford star Ivan Toney also on their shortlist. Apart from West Ham, Aston Villa are also interested in the Chelsea striker, who could well be on his way out of the club anyway if they succeed in signing Erling Haaland.

Nketiah, too, has been linked with a possible summer exit from Arsenal, and could be a viable target for West Ham. As for Abraham, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him at Chelsea, with a possible cross-London switch on the horizon for him ahead of the summer.
