Manchester United are reportedly set to be offered the services of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Portuguese striker Andre Silva in the summer.

According to a report from The Sun, Premier League giants Manchester United will be offered an opportunity to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Andre Silva in the summer transfer window if Edinson Cavani’s contract is not renewed by the Red Devils.

Cavani arrived at Manchester United last summer on a free transfer after his contract with PSG had run out. The Uruguayan has made a good impact since joining the Red Devils and has added great value to the side with his experience and natural goalscoring abilities.

However, the 34-year-old’s deal runs out at the end of the ongoing campaign. And even though Manchester United retain the option of extending his stay by another twelve months. But his age and recent fitness issues could play a role in the Red Devils’ decision over his future.

And should they not trigger the extension option, Andre Silva could be presented as an alternative for the 20-time English champions in a deal worth £30 million. The 25-year-old shot to fame in his homeland, Portugal, with FC Porto before earning his first big move to AC Milan.

However, Silva failed to set the stage alight in Italy and moved to Sevilla on loan to try and reignite his career. Another middling stint followed though before he made the jump to Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019, before making the transfer permanent last summer and he has hit the right notes since joining the Bundesliga outfit.

Indeed, the 25-year-old has already netted 18 goals in 20 outings in the German top-flight, a tally only bettered by Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski. Reports earlier this month had claimed that Manchester United had the Portuguese international on their transfer shortlist for the summer.

Now, the Red Devils could be offered a shot at signing him as Eintracht look to generate funds in order to re-sign Luka Jovic from Real Madrid. The Serbian moved to Spain in the summer of 2019 and endured a difficult year and a half before returning to Frankfurt on loan in the January transfer window.

The German outfit are keen on bringing Jovic back on a permanent basis at the end of the season and as a result, super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Silva, is now hoping to find a new club for him, with Manchester United set to be offered a shot at signing him. Any move, however, will hinge on Manchester United’s decision on Cavani’s contract.
