Manchester United have reportedly identified Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva as a potential transfer target to bolster their centre-forward department.

According to a report from Sky Germany, Premier League giants Manchester United have set their sights on Eintracht Frankfurt’s Portuguese striker Andre Silva ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Portuguese outfit FC Porto where he shot to fame before earning a high-profile transfer to AC Milan. However, his stint in Italy was a failure while he was also unable to get things back on track in Spain with Sevilla.

But, having made the switch to Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, Silva has been on a roll. So far in the 2020/21 campaign, the 25-year-old has already plundered 19 goals and 5 assists from just 22 games in all competitions. His tally of 18 goals in the Bundesliga this term has only been bettered by Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (25).

And, the Portuguese international’s exploits have seemingly put him on the radars of Manchester United, who have scouted him this season as the Red Devils eye to strengthen their attacking unit in the summer.

As things stand, the 20-time English champions have four players as options for the centre-forward slot in the form of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani. However, both Rashford and Greenwood have largely been used out on the flanks while Martial has endured another dull season.

And even though Cavani has made a huge impact since joining on a free transfer in the summer, the Uruguayan is not getting any younger, thus warranting the addition of another prolific goalscorer at the top for Manchester United. To that end, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund.

However, Silva could prove to be a cheaper alternative for the Norwegian international as Eintracht Frankfurt are likely to demand a transfer fee of just around €30 million for the 25-year-old, who is contracted to the Bundesliga club till the summer of 2023.

Premier League 2020/21 mid-season review: Manchester United

Manchester United, however, are not the only club pursuing Silva, with La Liga leaders and title favourites Atletico Madrid also keen on the 37-time capped Portuguese international. The Red Devils have shown signs of moving in the right direction under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

Adding another top-quality goalscorer and a centre-back in the summer could do the trick for the Red Devils as they look to re-establish themselves as the superpowers of English football. It, however, remains to be seen if their interest in Silva leads to something substantial in the summer transfer window.
