Transfer News: Real Madrid face AC Milan competition for Marcos Senesi

AC Milan have reportedly joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Pianeta Milan, Real Madrid are no longer alone in the race to sign Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord in the summer transfer window. AC Milan are now in pursuit of the 23-year-old Argentine as well and are readying a €25 million bid for him.

Marcos Senesi joined Feyenoord from his first professional club San Lorenzo in the summer of 2019. Since then, the young centre-back has established himself as a mainstay at the back for the Dutch outfit and in the ongoing season, he has not missed a single game when available.

Across all competitions, the 23-year-old has made 26 appearances, even chipping in with 2 goals and as many assists. Senesi’s progress over the last couple of seasons has not gone unnoticed either, with two of the biggest clubs in Europe – Real Madrid and AC Milan – setting their sights on him over a possible summer move.

Real Madrid are likely to be forced into the transfer market one way or another when the summer transfer window opens. The Merengues are in a precarious situation due to the future of captain Sergio Ramos, who is in the final few months of his current deal with the club and is no closer to agreeing a renewal.

In addition, the future of Eder Militao has long been touted to be uncertain, which is why it has often been suggested that Real Madrid could well delve into the market for two centre-backs. To that end, Senesi is one of the players who has been linked with a move. Real Madrid, though, now face stiff competition from AC Milan in his pursuit.

AC Milan bolstered their defence this past January by signing Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea. However, it is not a given that the English international will be signed on a permanent deal in the summer. With Mateo Musacchio being sold to Lazio last month, Stefano Pioli has just four other centre-backs at his disposal, it is imperative for Milan to be on the lookout for possible additions.

To that end, a move for Senesi would make sense if the Rossoneri do not exercise their option to sign Tomori permanently. And, AC Milan are preparing a bid worth €25 million for the Argentine defender, meaning Real Madrid will need to act quickly if they are to win the race to sign him.

Los Blancos, though, have also been linked with several other centre-backs, including Jules Kounde and Dayot Upamecano, which suggests they are keeping their options open. What now remains to be seen is if either of AC Milan or Real Madrid follow through with their interest in Senesi with a concrete offer in the summer.
