Leeds United have emerged as the latest suitor for PSG’s Julian Draxler, who is also courted by Arsenal this January.

According to Le10Sport, Julian Draxler is facing an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain at the moment. The German’s current contract at the club expires at the end of the season. Although the popular belief is that the playmaker will leave the club this month, newly appointed Mauricio Pochettino has asked for a few days to decide the future of some of the club’s fringe players.

However, that hasn’t deterred Leeds United from becoming the latest club to be linked with a move for Draxler. It is believed that Marcelo Bielsa could run an attempt to lure him to Elland Road as part of his January reinforcements, essentially meaning the Whites are now ready to compete with league rivals Arsenal in the pursuit of the PSG star.

A product of the famed Knappenschmiede academy in Schalke, Draxler has had his fair share of problems in the French capital. He has struggled with a lack of game-time, notably mustering only 465 minutes of league football this campaign. He has indeed fallen behind the likes of Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera and even Rafinha in the pecking order.

As a result, Arsenal have been quite intent of signing Draxler in the ongoing January transfer window. The Gunners are supposedly keen on finding a replacement for Mesut Ozil, who has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce. However, it will be interesting to see how the recent interest from Leeds United affects their pursuit of the playmaker.

The Whites have shown a lot of promise following their promotion to the Premier League. Their attractive style of play has seen them emerge as one of the most entertaining teams in the competition, with their tally of 30 goals only being bettered by four clubs so far this campaign.

Leeds could thus become an attractive destination for Draxler. The PSG star could become the club’s desired replacement for the ageing Pablo Hernandez while it should allow Marcelo Bielsa to operate Rodrigo Moreno in a more advanced role. The Argentine’s offensive-oriented football should also help unleash the best of the former Wolfsburg man.

As for Arsenal, they too have every reason to go after Draxler, who is indeed a cost-effective alternative for someone like Emiliano Buendia. So it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga takes shape within the coming weeks.
