Transfer Rumour: Manchester United join Arsenal, Liverpool in Yves Bissouma pursuit

Manchester United have reportedly joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to journalist Jonathan Shrager, Yves Bissouma does not have any shortage of suitors over a possible move in the future. Manchester United have joined Arsenal, Liverpool and others in pursuit of the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder.

Bissouma joined Brighton from Lille in the summer of 2018 and has since gradually grown in stature within the squad. Now a mainstay in midfield, the 24-year-old has become a key player for Graham Potter, who has utilised his abilities as a holding midfielder superbly.

Bissouma has excelled in the middle of the park for Brighton, which has boosted his stock within the Premier League as well. As a result, a number of top clubs have started showing an interest in Bissouma, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool among the English outfits that have their sights set on him.

Manchester United’s interest does make some sense considering Nemanja Matic is on the wrong side of 30 and is seemingly being phased out of the squad by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. While Fred has stepped up admirably as a holding midfielder this season, Manchester United could still do with an additional option, making Bissouma a viable target.

Liverpool, on the other hand, could well have been forced to have a look at Bissouma owing to the uncertain future of Georginio Wijnaldum, who continues to be linked with Barcelona. While Jurgen Klopp is still hoping to change the Dutchman’s mind and tie him down to a new deal, having someone like Bissouma on their radar would not hurt Liverpool.

As for Arsenal, it would be prudent for them to sign a creative midfielder instead of another holding midfielder. However, Granit Xhaka’s future is up in the air following his latest shenanigans and the Swiss international’s uncertain position could force Arsenal into making a move for a player like Bissouma, who would be a fine replacement.

Shrager has not revealed much in his claim and has simply revealed that as per Bissouma’s agent Michael N’Cho, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, as well as AS Monaco and a couple of La Liga outfits have shown significant interest in his client. What now remains to be seen is if any of these sides make a move for the 24-year-old anytime soon.
