Arsenal reportedly have the chance to sign former Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen in a cut-price deal in the January transfer window.

According to a report by ESPN, Arsenal have been offered the chance to secure the services of Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window. Inter Milan are prepared to offload the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder for less than the £16.9 million fee they paid to sign him earlier this year.

Eriksen joined Inter Milan following a six-and-a-half-year spell with Tottenham Hotspur. The Dane was instrumental in Spurs’ rise in recent years, as they established themselves as a force to reckon with in the Premier League. Since joining Inter, though, the 28-year-old has seen his fortunes plummet.

While Eriksen was used extensively in the second half of last season, he has lost his place in the side at the onset of the current campaign. With Antonio Conte choosing not to bank on him, it has been mooted that the Danish playmaker could be set to leave Inter Milan just a year after joining them. And, Arsenal have been linked with a shock move for the player.

The Premier League heavyweights have been in a state of transition this year after Mikel Arteta was appointed at the helm at the Emirates. While Arsenal have strengthened their defence, attack and creativity have suffered considerably.

With Mesut Ozil being frozen out of the first-team squad, Arteta’s creative options are quite thin to say the least. As a result, it is clear why Arsenal would want to bolster their creative options in the January transfer window, with Dominik Szoboszlai among those linked with them.

In recent weeks, a shock move for Eriksen has been suggested as well, with the initial reports claiming that Inter Milan proposed a swap deal including former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka. The latest update, though, iterates that the Gunners could be given the chance to sign Eriksen in a cut-price deal instead.

ESPN claim that Inter are prepared to offload the former Tottenham superstar for less than the £16.9 million they paid to sign him from the Premier League giants. The report suggests a clear figure, with the Nerazzurri offering Arsenal and other Premier League clubs the chance to sign the Danish international for just £12 million.

Meanwhile, Arteta has been coy when quizzed about Arsenal’s position on Eriksen. The report does not make any suggestions towards a possible interest from the north Londoners either, although his £12 million price-tag does make him an appealing target. It now remains to be seen if the Premier League heavyweights do make a move for Eriksen this winter.
