Raul Jimenez has confirmed Manchester United’s interest in him while refusing to rule out a future move to the Premier League club.

In an interview with American television network TUDN, as quoted by Goal, Raul Jimenez has revealed that Manchester United were among the clubs that approached him for a move in the summer transfer window. In addition, he has not ruled out a possible switch to Old Trafford in the future.

Raul Jimenez joined Wolves from Benfica in the summer of 2018. Initially moving to the Premier League on a loan deal, the Mexican international ended up joining the Midlands club permanently in the following summer and has been one of their best acquisitions in a revolutionary period that has seen them become European contenders.

Since joining Wolves two years ago, Jimenez has raked in over 100 appearances in all competitions, with a solid return of 48 goals and 18 assists to boot. The player’s impact has been duly noted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe, none more so than Premier League heavyweights Manchester United.

Manchester United have been in a constant state of transition since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and that appears to be the case this term as well, despite a strong end to the 2019/20 campaign. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Red Devils have bolstered their attack to some extent, with Edinson Cavani being signed as a possible short-term solution this past summer.

Apart from the veteran Uruguayan striker, Solskjaer has Anthony Martial and Odion Ighalo at his disposal to lead the line, with Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, who are both primarily used out wide also being options to be the central striker. Greenwood, in particular, is viewed as a long-term solution in attack, which has allayed the need of a striker for years to come.

However, Manchester United have still be urged to sign Raul Jimenez by former player Paul Ince. If signed, Jimenez could give Manchester United the peak years of his career while giving Greenwood time to continue his progress in an organic manner. Now, Jimenez has confirmed the links with the Red Devils while refusing to rule out a future move.

Speaking to TUDN (h/t Goal), he said, “One day I woke up and Juventus wanted me, another Manchester United and what I know is that there were approaches made. But an agreement was never reached and nothing was close. I’m very happy at Wolves.”

“It (a move) did not happen this time. If it happens at some point then it will have to be what is best for me, for Wolves and the team that I join. But I am very happy at Wolves and being considered a very important player.”

Manchester United have indeed been linked with Raul Jimenez in the past before the rumours disappeared. It will now be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for the 29-year-old in a future transfer window following his intriguing comments, or if the Premier League giants choose to put their faith in Greenwood once Cavani’s time at Old Trafford ends.
