Chelsea are reportedly interested in former Nottingham Forest star Anel Ahmedhodzic and are contemplating an €8 million bid for the Malmo defender.

As per Expressen, Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Anel Ahmedhodzic. The former Nottingham Forest defender currently plies his trade in Sweden for Malmo and seems to have entered the Blues’ radar. The report further entails that Chelsea are contemplating a bid for the Bosnian.

According to the report, Chelsea are ready to table €8 million to Malmo in order to secure the services of Anel Ahmedhodzic. However, he has almost 3 years remaining on his current Malmo deal, which means the Swedish giants have the upper hand in negotiations and can hold out for a higher fee. Also, the chances of a January transfer look grim.

Anel Ahmedhodzic had a brilliant 2019-20 campaign at Malmo under Jon Dahl Tomasson, who previously plied his trade in the Premier League for Newcastle. The 21-year-old’s exploits in Allsvenskan haven’t gone unnoticed, with the defender making the Bosnian national team and registering 2 senior caps so far.

Ahmedhodzic has continued to develop into a key figure at Malmo this season, with the defender starting all but one game for the club and bagging two goals in the process as well. There has been rumoured interest from several European clubs. However, Chelsea are the only one named to have the intent of converting the interest into an offer.

Frank Lampard would be far from impressed with his centre-backs so far, despite getting the odd clean sheets here and there. The Chelsea manager does have the likes of Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori as options. But, he hasn’t been able to find a stable pairing for the club thus far.

However, there is also a chance that Chelsea’s interest in Ahmedhodzic is not backed by any immediate intent and that the Blues are likely to send him out on loan once he arrives at the Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old is starting to become a hot property in the market and Chelsea would love to get their hands on him early along with having a say in his development. The club’s stature will also appeal to Ahmedhodzic, who is likely to harbour hopes of playing in the Premier League, from his time in the Nottingham Forest youth setup.

€8 million is not too much of a stretch for a 21-year-old international footballer who is just starting to come into his own in European football. It will be interesting to see the player and Malmo’s response if Chelsea do table the offer.
