Predicted Chelsea lineup against Crystal Palace: Mendy set for Premier League debut; Pulisic in contention

Edouard Mendy is set to make his Premier League debut while Christian Pulisic will be in contention to feature when Chelsea face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Chelsea will be desperate to end their winless run by raking in all three points when they welcome Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. And, Frank Lampard is closer than ever to having a full-strength squad at his disposal.

The good news heading into Chelsea’s latest fixture is that Christian Pulisic is finally fit and ready to take the field. That leaves Hakim Ziyech and Billy Gilmour as the only absentees for the hosts. Meanwhile, Lampard had been sweating over the fitness of Timo Werner ahead of the game, but as it turns out, the German striker’s troubles were pertaining to cramps.

The big talking point during Lampard’s pre-match press conference, the big talking point was whether Pulisic was fit enough to start against Crystal Palace. The Chelsea boss said, “Pulisic is in the squad for tomorrow. He won’t start the match because of the injury he’s had and it’s been a difficult injury but I am very keen to get him back in there.”

With Pulisic not expected to start on Saturday, Timo Werner will once again be deployed on the left-wing, with Tammy Abraham leading the line for Chelsea. On the right flank, Mason Mount is likely to start, with the English midfielder looking to move on from the disappointment of missing his spot-kick during the shootout against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

With Mount starting on the right side of the Chelsea attack, Kai Havertz will have the chance to reprise his favoured no. 10 role. Behind him, the ever-present figure of Mateo Kovacic ought to have N’Golo Kante as his partner in the midfield double pivot.

In defence, Thiago Silva is expected to return, despite making a high-profile error last weekend at West Bromwich Albion. Silva will, in fact, don the armband once again for Chelsea, with Andreas Christensen being his central defensive partner.

Out wide, Reece James ought to return in place of Cesar Azpilicueta, while Ben Chilwell will feature in a Premier League game for the first time in Chelsea colours against Crystal Palace, with Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri having their futures up in the air at Stamford Bridge.

There will also be a Premier League debut for Edouard Mendy, who seems to be ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero in the goalkeeping pecking order.
