Sheffield United are reportedly on the verge of signing Rhian Brewster from Liverpool in a club-record £23.5 million deal.

According to a report by The Guardian, Rhian Brewster’s time at Liverpool is set to come to an end before the summer transfer window slams shut. The 20-year-old striker is on the cusp of joining Sheffield United, who will pay a club-record £23.5 million to sign him.

Brewster came through the ranks at Chelsea before choosing to finish his youth career at Liverpool, having joined them in 2014. However, after making grade in the senior setup at Anfield, the player has had to bide his time, with a long-term ankle injury also curtailing his progress.

The 20-year-old finally received some valuable game-time in the second half of last season, joining Swansea City on a short-term loan. There, Brewster flourished, scoring 11 goals in 22 outings in the Championship before returning to Liverpool. However, this summer, it has become clear that he had no future at the Merseyside club.

The youngster has been nowhere to be seen so far this season, with Jurgen Klopp not even using him in the Carabao Cup against Arsenal and Lincoln City. As a result, Brewster has been linked with a move away from Liverpool for quite some time.

Aston Villa were among the suitors who have reportedly been after the 20-year-old before they ended up securing the services of Ollie Watkins. Now, though, it seems like Sheffield United are set to swoop him away from Liverpool.

At present, Chris Wilder has four strikers at his disposal, with the manager rotating Billy Sharp, Oliver McBurnie, David McGoldrick and Lys Mousset efficiently last season. This term, though, McGoldrick and Mousset have struggled with injuries, which has left the Blades short of options in the final third.

With Wilder employing a 3-5-2 formation, there has understandably been the need to sign a striker, with the signing now coming in the form of Brewster. As per the report, Sheffield United have reached an agreement with Liverpool over a £23.5 million deal for Brewster.

This deal also includes a 15 percent sell-on clause, as well as a buy-back option for Liverpool which will active for the next three years. The player has already travelled to South Yorkshire for a medical and summer move now looks imminent. All that now remains is an official announcement, but it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Brewster is joining Sheffield United in a £23.5 million deal.
