Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko could soon be on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge, with AC Milan closing in on his transfer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tiemoue Bakayoko will once again leave Chelsea on loan this summer. The midfielder has now been linked with a move to AC Milan, with the player himself keen on returning to San Siro.
Both Chelsea and Milan have had positive talks regarding the transfer and the deal could soon be finalised. Bakayoko has already agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants, with the loan contract set to include an option to buy clause in June 2021.
Bakayoko’s apparent exit from Stamford doesn’t come as surprise, with the Blues keen on overseeing a massive squad overhaul in the summer. In fact, they have already brought in star players such as Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner while Xavier Mbuyamba was recently signed on a free transfer.
In addition, the west London are also in the running for at least three top targets, including Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva. Havertz, in particular, is currently the hottest topic in the transfer market.
And the departure of Bakayoko, in that regard, should help Chelsea fund the German international’s outrageous price-tag, with Bayer Leverkusen reportedly holding out for a fee of €100 million.
The Blues have done well to get rid of ageing players like Pedro and Willian. But offloading Bakayoko could be the next step towards a midfield overhaul, with Danny Drinkwater also likely to move away from Stamford Bridge. In fact, the club is even considering the sale of holding midfielder Jorginho and a return to Serie A could be on the cards for the Italian.
As for AC Milan, they could certainly welcome the addition of Bakayoko, who had shown a lot of promise during his initial stint at San Siro back in 2018. The Frenchman has done well to redeem himself, to an extent, following a dismal start to his career in the Premier League.
Milan themselves have also fared brilliantly under Stefano Pioli, notably enjoying a strong finish to the 2019/20 campaign. They already have a strong midfield unit, boasting the services of Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie.
However, the Rossoneri need to find a proper replacement for Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Biglia, both of who have left the club. Bakayoko, in that regard, should be an ideal option, having already played at San Siro. He should, therefore, combine well with the likes of Kessie and Bennacer as AC Milan eye a top-four finish in the coming season.
