PSG are reportedly eyeing Diogo Dalot, who is valued at €35 million by Manchester United, as a possible replacement for Thomas Meunier.

As per a report published by Daily Mercato, PSG have shifted their attention towards Diogo Dalot as a possible right-back replacement for Thomas Meunier. Dalot has been out-of-favour at Manchester United since his arrival in 2018, and could be on his way out this summer.

Dalot arrived at Manchester United for £18 million from FC Porto in July, 2018, but has never been able to win over the Old Trafford faithfuls. The 21-year-old earned himself a spot under Jose Mourinho, but has failed to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mourinho heralded Dalot as one of the best prospects in world football, and immediately set the bar too high for him. To make things worse for the Portuguese, Manchester United secured the services of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in a £50 million deal. The right-back spot has been the Englishman’s to keep since.

Dalot has only managed to help Manchester United to a grand total of 1 clean sheet in his time in the Premier League, which came against now-relegated Fulham last season. Moreover, his 2 Premier League assists in a Manchester United shirt have been matched by a far more defensive Wan-Bissaka this season.

The report claims that the Red Devils have slapped a €35 million price tag on Dalot, which is almost double of what they paid for him two years ago. However, with a squad overhaul due, and Jadon Sancho in their sights, Manchester United will want to get as much funds as possible. Dalot is the subject of interest from PSG.

PSG are set to lose Thomas Meunier, who will be able to move for free in the summer once his contract expires in June. This gives United the chance to get his signature as a backup for Wan-Bissaka. The Belgian has been linked with a move to Manchester United and makes for a more than decent second fiddle.

As for PSG, Dalot seems like capable player to do a job under Thomas Tuchel, who is very demanding of his players. The Portuguese’s work rate will certainly impress the German coach.

However, what makes Dalot the perfect player for PSG is his ability to play multiple positions on either flank. He has been used as a right-back, right wing-back, left wing-back, left-back and right winger during his time with Manchester United, which will come handy for Tuchel, who likes utility players, specially ones who can attack from the wing.

The team from the French capital can certainly match the €35 million valuation set by United, but may want to focus on better players they can get in the same price range, if available. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Dalot has reached the end of the line at Manchester United, with PSG in his pursuit.
