Chelsea are reportedly prepared to shell out £23 million to swoop Matias Vecino away from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the summer.

According to a report by Daily Express, Chelsea are willing to meet Inter Milan’s valuation of Matias Vecino to complete a move for the Uruguayan midfielder in the summer transfer window. The Serie A giants want £23 million in exchange of the 28-year-old.

Matias Vecino joined Inter Milan from Fiorentina in the summer of 2017 and instantly established himself as a regular. A mainstay in the first-team setup at San Siro, the Uruguayan international has played his part in helping the Nerazzurri become Champions League regulars once again.

However, the arrival of Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi has affected his game time, with Vecino starting just 15 of the 32 games that Inter have played this term. The 28-year-old, though, remains highly regarded in the transfer market and is being tailed by Chelsea.

Chelsea have been interested in Vecino for quite some time now and have been previously linked with him on a few occasions. However, the continued interest in the Inter Milan midfielder comes as a bit of a surprise.

Midfield is one area where Frank Lampard does not have any shortage of options. The Chelsea boss has the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Ross Barkley at his disposal, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek could soon be as good as a new signing if he is able to play at his best levels after regaining fitness.

Chelsea, therefore, appear to be in no need of signing any more midfielders as they seem to have all the bases covered in the middle of the park. Nevertheless, it looks as if the Blues are set to make a move for Vecino in the summer transfer window, if Daily Express are to be believed.

Chelsea are set for a busy summer transfer window and have already begun their spending spree, having agreed a deal to sign Hakim Ziyech from Ajax. Vecino now seems to be next on their agenda and the report suggests that Chelsea are ready to meet Inter Milan’s £23 million valuation of the midfielder.

The Nerazzurri want to offload the 28-year-old and have demanded the aforementioned £23 million in exchange of his services, which makes Vecino an economical target for Chelsea. What now remains to be seen is if reports linking him with the Blues are indeed true. If so, we could see Vecino become the second player to have agreed a deal to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
