Despite Chelsea’s reluctance of letting midfielder Ross Barkley leave on loan, West Ham boss David Moyes is hopeful for a reunion with his former Everton star.
According to a report on Mirror, West Ham boss David Moyes is keen to bring English midfielder, Ross Barkley on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Chelsea have clearly stated that they have no intentions of letting Ross Barkley leave Stamford Bridge. However, David Moyes feels that Barkley may look for regular first-team football, which he isn’t getting right. With the 2020 Euros just around the corner, Barkley will have to prove himself before he gets a look in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, therefore he may consider this move to join the Hammers on loan.
Moyes is determined to bring in midfield reinforcements and more quality in the middle of the park with Jack Wilshere struggling for fitness and Carlos Sanchez out of favour. He considered a move for Barkley only because of his connection during their time at Everton, where Moyes nurtured the midfielder and is hoping to reunite with him again this season.
The Hammers are also linked with AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie but remain open with Ross Barkley’s loan deal, as they are very eager to add more energy to their midfield. The Hammers have had a busy winter transfer window till now as they are linked with several players.
Frank Lampard has a packed midfield comprising of players like Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Willian and Matteo Kovacic. Whereas Ross Barkley has only featured in seven Premier League matches and recently started for Chelsea in the FA Cup third round where the Blues were 2-0 victors over Nottingham Forrest. He followed it up with a start against Burnley in the Premier League.
It is clear that Barkley is not a mainstay in Chelsea’s midfield but Lampard prefers him as a squad player, often making an impact from the bench. Now it depends on the 26-year old to take a call on this and decide whether he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge or reunite with David Moyes at West Ham.
