Chelsea are reportedly looking to splash the cash in January and Frank Lampard has made PSG duo Julian Draxler and Idrissa Gueye his primary targets.

According to a report by Daily Star, Chelsea are raring for a very eventful January transfer window with Julian Draxler and Idrissa Gueye topping their priority list. The Blues want to make up for lost time in the transfer market and are looking to land the PSG duo going into the business of the season. Both these players will add more dynamism and depth to Frank Lampard’s squad.

Draxler has fallen down the pecking order at Parc des Princes and has struggled to remain a a regular under Thomas Tuchel. The 26-year-old has managed only 456 minutes of action in all competitions this season. As a result, a move away from PSG has been mooted, with Hertha Berlin among the suitors as well.

Ever since Chelsea lost Eden Hazard, they are looking to add more creativity upfront and with the German international being a seasoned campaigner, Lampard is convinced that he is the right man for the job. Also, with Pedro possibly nearing the end of his Chelsea stint, the Blues will need more depth on the flanks and Draxler’s ability to play centrally is an added bonus.

Another PSG player Chelsea have on their radar is former Everton man Idrissa Gueye. Despite having a strong midfield, the Blues are considering a move for the Senegalese midfielder to bolster their options in the middle of the park, which is why the interest in Gueye comes as a bit of a surprise.

Gueye has been a mainstay for Tuchel’s side and unlike Draxler, prising the 30-year-old defensive midfielder will be tough for Chelsea as the Parisians will likely be unwilling to let one of their pivotal players leave the club.

Gueye has been the main block in midfield for PSG and his performances against Real Madrid in the Champions League brought him into the limelight. The 30-year-old is a silent performer, but his immense presence ahead of the back four makes a lot of difference for the French champions.

Chelsea are in the mix to finish in a Champions League spot this season but some unwanted defeats in their last few league games have evidently opened up the flaws and the areas of improvement. Lampard is also looking to go deep in the Champions League and mainly keeping that in mind he is eager to bring in reinforcements in January.

However, while Draxler could be a worthwhile pursuit for Chelsea, it is difficult to see Gueye leaving PSG mere months after joining them from Everton. It now remains to be seen if the double raid on PSG for the duo can see the light of the day.
