Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a humongous cash plus player offer involving James Rodriguez to land Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante.
According to a report by Spanish outlet ElDesmarque Madrid, Real Madrid are willing to make a cash plus player deal to secure the services of N’Golo Kante. The player in question is James Rodriguez, with Los Blancos also ready to offer an additional €100 million to land the Chelsea superstar.
Kante has become one of the best midfielders in the world ever since he arrived on the shores of England, back in the summer of 2015. In his maiden campaign in England, Kante played an integral role to guide Leicester City to a shock Premier League triumph. The subsequent summer saw him join Chelsea and he repeated the heroics to lift the league title for a second season in a row.
This time around, the Frenchman also ended up winning the PFA Player of the Year award. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength on a personal level at Chelsea, while also tasting success on the international level, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France. But, his exploits for club and country have also earned Kante a long-term admirer in Real Madrid.
In fact, the 28-year-old was even linked heavily with Los Blancos last year before he ended up signing a new long-term deal with Chelsea. Real Madrid, though, continue to show an interest in Kante despite a summer of intense rebuilding.
Midfield, however, was an area that was left unaddressed during the aforementioned revamping phase, forcing Zinedine Zidane to keep James Rodriguez in his squad for the season. The Colombian playmaker, who was linked with a move to neighbours Atletico Madrid, has impressed in the chances he has been given so far this term.
But, Real Madrid will part ways with him in the first instance that presents itself. And, such an instance could come in the form of Chelsea’s interest in James Rodriguez. With the Merengues already keen on signing Kante, the opportunity of a cash plus player deal is emerging.
An upturn in the Colombian’s form ought to have raised his value and Real Madrid are hoping to offset Chelsea’s €160 million valuation of Kante by offering the Blues a €100 million plus James Rodriguez deal. Any possible transaction, though, might have to wait till next summer.
Chelsea are currently serving a two-window ban, handed to them by FIFA, that will also prohibit them from signing players in January. But, the Blues are hoping to have the ban cut short, having lodged an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and any possible January move will hinge on the decision of their appeal.
For now, a €100 million plus James Rodriguez deal suits all parties involved, seeing as Chelsea and Real Madrid get their targets, with Kante also open to the idea of making his way to the Bernabeu in the future.
While Zidane wants his compatriot to compete with Casemiro for the holding midfield role, Kante could also play as a box-to-box midfielder, making him an appealing target. James, on the other hand, could boost Chelsea’s creative options. It now remains to be seen if a humongous cash plus player deal sees the light of the day, be it in January or next summer.
