Real Madrid have reportedly earmarked Kylian Mbappe as their main target to replenish their attack and will move for the PSG superstar in the summer of 2020.

Spanish publication Sport have speculated that PSG are aware of Real Madrid’s intentions regards Kylian Mbappe. The French giants already know Real Madrid are interested in the Frenchman and will likely move for the superstar in the summer of 2020, with the report stating that PSG had warned Barcelona of the same during the failed negotiations for the sale of Neymar this summer.

The recently concluded summer transfer window saw another Neymar saga, with the Brazilian rumoured to be targeting a return to Spain and Barcelona, in particular. But, PSG and Barcelona failed to come to an agreement and while the other teams tried, none of the offers piqued PSG’s interest enough to strike a deal.

However, Sport’s speculation that PSG brought up Real Madrid’s interest in Mbappe and their potential pursuit of the Frenchman in the coming summer is intriguing.

Real Madrid’s interest in Kylian Mbappe though, is nothing new. Los Blancos were interested in the Frenchman before his move to PSG and were also linked with Mbappe in the summer, only to opt against shelling out further money after a window of lavish spending to replenish the squad and the attack, in particular.

Kylian Mbappe has achieved all he could at domestic level with PSG and at international level with France. But, the Frenchman would be wary of the fact that the closest he came to Champions League glory was in an AS Monaco jersey. PSG have continued to falter at important junctures in the knockout stage. But, what has inflicted more damage is the manner of their defeats.

Before Neymar arrived, PSG blew a 4-0 first leg lead against Barcelona in what was etched in the footballing history as one of the greatest comebacks. The 2018-19 season saw a repeat, albeit in a slightly more crushing manner. Manchester United won via a stoppage time penalty, which has gone on to haunt the PSG fans for a long time.

If PSG are unable to land some kind of success in the Champions League this season, Mbappe might want to take the next step in his career towards achieving the one thing he is yet to taste, European success.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, look like they have opted to stick with Gareth Bale for the season, which could be a hint that they would look to replace the Welsh with another attacker in the summer of 2020. Sport’s report hints at Mbappe being the man, and given Zidane’s admiration for his compatriot, this could very well come to fruition, much to PSG’s agony.
