Danny Drinkwater is reportedly on the radar of newly promoted Premier League side Norwich City, who are eyeing a late move for the Chelsea midfielder.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Norwich City have made enquiries with Chelsea for Danny Drinkwater. The 29-year-old Englishman does not figure in Frank Lampard’s plans for the 2019-20 season and could be set to finally bring his frustrations at Stamford Bridge to an end.

Drinkwater seemed to be on cloud nine following the end of 2015-16 season, when he had played a key role in Leicester City’s shock Premier League triumph. After another solid season with the Foxes, the English international sealed a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2017.

But, what has transpired since, has been a nightmarish period for Drinkwater, who has started a mere 12 games in the two seasons he has been with the Blues. In fact, last term, the 29-year-old featured just once for Chelsea, with Maurizio Sarri freezing him out of his squad.

Sarri’s departure this summer though, has not changed a thing, with Frank Lampard not fancying him much either, with Mason Mount, who has signed a renewal with the Blues, being preferred over him. And, the Chelsea boss will allow Drinkwater to leave the club this week, as the British transfer deadline nears, with newly promoted outfit Norwich City showing an interest in him.

Brighton & Hove Albion have also made tentative enquiries for the Chelsea midfielder, but are not seriously interested in signing him. As for Norwich, they have chosen to be largely quiet this summer transfer window, with Daniel Farke seemingly happy with the squad at his disposal.

The only significant arrivals for the Canaries have been Sam Byram and Josip Drmic, with Patrick Roberts returning on loan, while Ralf Fahrmann has completed a season-long move from FC Schalke 04. As for midfield, the newly promoted club do seem to have plenty of options.

But, it looks like Farke wants a late addition for the department, with a number of midfielders struggling with niggles and injuries. As a result, Drinkwater, along with Chelsea academy product Nathaniel Chalobah and Ibrahim Amadou have been identified as possible targets.

In Drinkwater, Norwich would have a player who has ample experience in the Premier League and someone who has also won the competition. But, it remains to be seen if the newly promoted Premier League outfit take their interest in the 29-year-old midfielder further by submitting a late bid to sign him.
