The Ecuadorian U-20 left-back was all ready to sign for Barcelona until the president of his parent club Aucas started demanding more money.
Barcelona are on course to finish the transfer window with terrific results. The Catalan giants are also simultaneously trying to convince young talents to join their ranks as future prospects, but one such deal has hit a roadblock. According to Mundo Deportivo, the move for Aucas left-back Diego Palacios has run into problems after their president demanded more money despite having a deal agreed in principle.
According to reports, the Ecuadorian U-20 left-back had a deal agreed with Barcelona in the last few weeks. The Catalans had agreed on a fee as well as personal terms, with only a medical pending in terms of formalities. However, since then, there have been more incoming offers from other sides, casting doubts over this move.
Reports suggest Aucas president is now demanding more money at the last minute from Barcelona. It is claimed that there have been more lucrative offers from other clubs for the emerging left-back after Barcelona agreed on a fee and other details. Palacios himself was keen on a move and was excited to join Barcelona.
The left-back was expected to become a part of Barcelona’s B team and is now curious to know his future after the latest debacle. Palacios is concerned about this move happening after he snubbed various offers from first division sides. Despite his growing stature as a footballer, he was willing to work his way through Barcelona’s lower sides to gain a chance to play for the first-team one day.
However, Barcelona have been keen on the left-back following his impressive performances while on loan at Willem II last season. The U-20 star is considered one of the hottest talents, but Barca only want him for their B-team. The La Liga side are on course to strengthening their reserve side for the upcoming season although some may depart including defensive midfielder Oriol Busquets.
As for Palacios, who had been keen on a move, the future might get resolved in the coming days as Barcelona will surely try and find a solution to this saga. However, it remains to be seen if they are willing to pay more money to Aucas following their new demand.
