Chelsea are seemingly keen on acquiring the services of Bayern Munich wunderkind Torben Rhein, who is regarded as one of Germany’s hottest youth prospects.

According to Sport1, Chelsea have proposed a lucrative offer in an attempt to lure Torben Rhein to a move to Stamford Bridge. The Bayern Munich sensation played for the Under-17 setup last season. But, his blistering performances in the youth leagues saw him promoted to the Under-19 team this summer.

Now Chelsea obviously have their hands tied due to their nasty transfer ban. But, given the player’s tender age, they are willing to offer Rhein an attractive offer to join the Chelsea in 2020. They are planning to keep him on their books from next year and eventually introduce him to the first-team in a timely manner.

The arrival of Frank Lampard as a replacement for Maurizio Sarri has already seen Chelsea pay extra attention to the development of youth players. The club legend is keen on integrating the current crop of talents to the first-team next season while making long-term plans for those who are not getting enough opportunities.

Perhaps the best example of Lampard’s intentions was his attempted persuasion on Callum Hudson-Odoi to prolong his stay at Chelsea. The Chelsea boss was also the brains behind Ethan Ampadu’s loan move to RB Leipzig, which could turn out to be a success.

Hence, Chelsea’s interest in Rhein is not surprising at all. And should Lampard succeed in his bid to revolve his team around young players within the coming years, Stamford Bridge could indeed turn out to be an attractive destination for the 16-year-old.

Very few players have managed to come out of the Bayern youth academy and become a vital part of the first-team in recent years. And though the Bavarians have ushered in a new era under Niko Kovac, it’s unlikely Rhein will be able to make an impact anytime soon in this star-studded Bayern lineup.

But, at the same time, the German top-flight has become the breeding ground for young, talented individuals and many players have sealed a big-money move elsewhere by performing in this league. Therefore, remaining in the Bundesliga might be the most logical thing to do for Rhein, should he choose to leave the Bayern Munich academy.
