Released Chelsea youngster Kyle Scott is reportedly set to join Premier League club Newcastle United on a free transfer.
According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea academy graduate Kyle Scott is set to receive a Premier League reprieve. The 21-year-old was released by the Blues last month and is now set to be join Newcastle United on a free transfer to become their second signing of the summer transfer window.
Kyle Scott joined Chelsea from Southampton in 2007 aged 10. One of the highest rated youngsters in the Blues’ academy, the Englishman made rapid progressions in the youth setup, making his debut for the Under-18 team as a 15-year-old.
Scott was also key part of the team that won three consecutive FA Youth Cups and back-to-back UEFA Youth League titles between 2013 and 2016. The player was even in for praise from Antonio Conte while he was still in-charge at Chelsea, and was handed his first-team debut under the Italian. But, he has since gone the way of many academy products before him.
Having not be given a definitive pathway to the first-team, the 21-year-old was sent out on loan to Dutch second division side Telstar for half-a-season last summer. But, upon returning to Stamford Bridge, the player seemed to have no future with Chelsea and he was subsequently released by the West London club upon the termination of his contract.
Now a free agent after making just one appearance for Chelsea, Scott finally looks set to play Premier League football, with Newcastle United interested in signing him. New manager Steve Bruce does have a number of midfield talents at his disposal at St. James’ Park, although the futures of a few players, including Manchester United target Sean Longstaff, remains up in the air.
But, January signing Miguel Almiron is the only player who can adeptly play as an attacking midfielder. A lack of depth in the position means a move to sign Scott on a free transfer makes sense for cash-strapped Newcastle United, who have a club record £40 million on Brazilian striker Joelinton.
The report suggests that the Chelsea academy product has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League club while also completing his medical. A move thus, looks to be all but a formality now. With Scott now set for a new journey, it remains to be seen if the 21-year-old can spark his senior career alive.
