Chelsea have made an official announcement to confirm that they have reached an agreement with Mason Mount over securing his long-term future. The English midfielder has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract that ties him up at Stamford Bridge till 30th June 2024.
Mason Mount has long been touted to be one to look out for and someone who could emulate John Terry and Ruben Loftus-Cheek by becoming a regular member of the Chelsea first-team setup. But, the 20-year-old has spent the last two seasons away from the West London club.

The 2017-18 season saw Chelsea ship Mount out to Vitesse Arnhem, where he was so impressive that he ended the campaign as the Dutch club’s Player of the Year. His upward trajectory continued last term, this time closer to home, as he joined Derby County on a season-long loan deal.
Under the tutelage of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, the Englishman turned out 44 times for the Rams, with a solid return of 11 goals and 6 assists. Having nearly inspired Derby to clinch promotion, Mount now looks set to finally break into the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard has been appointed as the Chelsea manager following the departure of Maurizio Sarri. And, it has been widely reported that under the guidance of new boss, the Blues are set to blood in more youngsters than ever before, pouncing on the opportunity presented by their transfer ban.
To that end, Chelsea have been working on securing the futures of key youngsters, having already tied Loftus-Cheek to a long-term deal. Callum Hudson-Odoi is also believed to be on their agenda, but the teenage prodigy continues to be heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, there had been reports that Mount was also reported to be nearer to the top of the list of candidates who were in line for a renewal. And, Chelsea have now gone on to agree a new five-year contract with the English midfielder, who expressed his delight at committing his future to his boyhood club.
“It’s a massively proud moment for myself and my family. I joined this club at six years old and it was always my goal to play for the first team one day. I’m really looking forward to the coming season now and working hard to have an impact here at Chelsea. I’ve been at the club for a long time already and hopefully I’ll stay for a long time to come.”
Having already worked under Lampard, one can expect bright things from Mount, should he be inculcated in the first-team setup at the Bridge. The 20-year-old has already played a part for Chelsea during their pre-season campaign and it will now be interesting to see if a future with the first-team awaits in the 2019-20 season.
