Brazilian international David Luiz has backed Frank Lampard to be a managerial success at Chelsea, following his appointment last week.

As quoted by the London Evening Standard, David Luiz has given newly-appointed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard his backing to succeed at Stamford Bridge, this time in a managerial capacity. The Brazilian international believes that the Englishman’s understanding of the Blues’ DNA will set them up for an accomplished period.

Frank Lampard enjoyed a legendary career with Chelsea, having spent 13 illustrious years at the West London club before winding up his playing time two years later at New York City. Following his retirement, the Englishman turned his attention towards embarking on his managerial career and got his first break with Derby County last season.

In the tricky atmosphere of Championship football, Lampard showed a lot of promise, guiding the Rams all the way to the Championship Playoffs final. Alas, Derby fell just short on their final hurdle as Aston Villa pipped them to the final Premier League promotion spot.

Having enjoyed a mildly successful debut season as a manager, Lampard earned a lot of plaudits and became the front-runner to become the new Chelsea manager once news of Maurizio Sarri’s future gathered steam. And, the inevitable was confirmed last week when Lampard was announced as the new Chelsea manager.

The new Blues’ boss has now got a word of support from his new charge David Luiz, who has showered praises on his new manager, iterating that his knowledge of the club will pave the way for a successful time at Chelsea.

“It’s great to see him here. He’s someone who knows what it means to be at Chelsea and understands the DNA of this club. We are working well so far, everyone is getting along and the sessions have been great.

“Lamps, or should I say ‘Gaffer’, is now our leader and he’s going to try to do everything he can like he did when he was a player, and now it’s up to us to help him build the spirit and the philosophy around the club to be successful.”

Having showed a lot of promise during his short stay with Derby County, Lampard could be just who Chelsea need to get back among the contenders for the Premier League title, slowly but surely. Life as Chelsea manager did not start on a strong note for the Englishman though, as his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Irish outfit Bohemians in a pre-season friendly.

But, the list of supporters keeps on growing, with Rio Ferdinand also giving his backing to Lampard to succeed at Chelsea. Only time will tell if the Chelsea legend has what it takes to become a legend in a managerial capacity as well, a la Pep Guardiola.
