Maurizio Sarri set for Chelsea exit after agreeing personal terms with Juventus

Maurizio Sarri is set to leave Chelsea after reportedly agreeing terms with Juventus to replace Massimiliano Allegri.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Maurizio Sarri’s time at Chelsea seems to be coming to an end. The UEFA Europa League final this week could spell the end of the Italian’s time at the West London club, with Juventus reaching an agreement with him to become their next manager.

Sarri was only appointed as the Chelsea manager less than a year ago, replacing compatriot Antonio Conte at the helm at Stamford Bridge. But, his maiden campaign as the Blues’ boss was anything but smooth sailing. His side were in real danger of missing out on the top four, and with it a chance to play Champions League football for a second successive season.

In the end though, the season could be termed a somewhat successful one if they manage to win the Europa League, with the final against Arsenal set to be played on Wednesday. In the two cup competitions, Chelsea reached the semi-finals and the final, while Sarri’s men also ended the Premier League season third on the table.

However, despite a decent maiden campaign as the Chelsea manager, Sarri could be on his way out of the club soon. While reports a few months ago were speculating about a sacking decision, the latest are linking the Italian with vacant jobs at top clubs, most prominently with Juventus.

Massimiliano Allegri is set to part ways with the Bianconeri despite winning the Serie A title in each of the seasons he was in-charge of the club. But, the real sticking point for the Juventus board was the Italian’s failure to guide his men to a Champions League triumph – the side reached two finals.

The latest failure saw Juventus being dumped out of the competition at the Last Eight stage by Ajax and they also failed to win the Coppa Italia. With Allegri destined to make his way out of the Allianz Stadium, the Serie A champions are scouring for a replacement, which has landed them at Chelsea’s doors.

The Italian could well be the solution Juventus need, despite the fact that he has never won a major trophy in his managerial career. His style of play ought to provide an instant boost to a side that boasts talents like Cristiano Ronaldo, Federico Bernardeschi and soon, Aaron Ramsey, complementing those talents quite well.

What also boosts Juventus’ hopes of appointing Sarri is the fact that Chelsea are open to the idea of the Italian departing from Stamford Bridge. And, Sarri himself is keen on joining the Italian champions, having agreed a three-year £6.2 million-a-year deal in principle with them.

Juventus plan to step up their pursuit of the Chelsea manager after the Europa League and Champions League finals and if things go their way, an announcement could be imminent. It now remains to be seen if Sarri indeed makes his way out of the West London club after just one season or if he stays put at Stamford Bridge.
