The French Champions want to bring the World Cup-winning midfielder to Paris as they seek a solid player to fulfill their Champions League ambitions.
Chelsea are in a precarious situation before the upcoming transfer window with the transfer ban looming large. The Blues may not be pleased with the news of Paris Saint-Germain’s growing interest in their star midfielder N’Golo Kante as the French Champions are determined to land the World Cup winner this summer, according to The Mirror.
PSG are making plans for the summer to bolster their squad. The Ligue 1 Champions have set their sights on European glory as they secured yet another domestic championship this season. This season, PSG were knocked out dramatically by Manchester United at home and would want to better equip their side for the next campaign.
The Paris club have had a long-standing interest in Kante, and they considered signing him last summer as well. However, Chelsea’s asking price and the willingness of Kante to remain at Stamford Bridge saw him stay put in England and sign a new deal in December 2018, but PSG are back in the hunt for the French star.
PSG were believed to be on the trails of Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye, who also interests Manchester United in the upcoming window. However, the Parisian club have seemingly opted out of the race for the Everton star and have shifted their focus back to Kante. Any deal for Kante could involve many complications and a huge transfer fee.
PSG are one of the few clubs who can manage to splurge the money needed to prise Kante away from Chelsea. Despite the midfielder’s lengthy contract with the Blues, Kante might be in for a much bigger pay packet if he signs with the Paris club. It remains to be seen if Chelsea accept any bid from PSG and lose one of their top performers.
Kante joined Chelsea from Leicester City on the back of a shock title-winning campaign with the Foxes. He won the Premier League title again in his first season at Stamford Bridge and followed that up with an FA Cup medal in his next. If he is to depart in the summer, he could add another title when Chelsea face Arsenal in the Europa League Final at the end of the month.
Chelsea, however, are not in a very good position with transfers as the two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA looms large. Despite multiple attempts to overturn it, they have failed and chances the punishment could be upheld starting with the summer window. The Blues are resigned to losing star man Eden Hazard to Real Madrid, and it certainly could be a blow to lose Kante too in the same window.
It is an unlikely possibility that Chelsea would let Kante leave, as they cannot sign a replacement for the energetic Frenchman. With Hazard more than certain to leave, Chelsea would not want to shoot themselves in the foot by selling Kante too. But, things could certainly change during the window, depending on PSG’s offer for the Frenchman and the wages they might offer him.
