Chelsea are reportedly considering cashing in on promising winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, with the youngster set to enter the last year of his contract.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s situation at Chelsea is pretty peculiar. The player has been linked with a move away from the club for a while now over fears of not being able to get regular first-team football. According to Daily Mail, the club is now considering the prospect of actually cashing in on their academy graduate.

The report states that Hudson-Odoi will enter the last year of his Chelsea contract in the summer, with the club not yet initiating contract talks with the English international. The Blues might fear losing the 18-year-old for a measly compensation fee in 2020, with the player eligible to speak to clubs from other European regions from January.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is hailed as one of the brightest prospects within the Chelsea academy and by the national coaches as well. That the youngster is already an English international and has his first senior goal for England despite not being anywhere near being a starter for Chelsea speaks volumes of the talent he is.

But, that also highlights the lack of opportunities afforded to him at Chelsea, at least until the recent few weeks, wherein he has gotten a few starts. Maurizio Sarri seems to have taken note of his talent and with the Blues’ transfer ban set to be upheld, meaning they cannot sign players for a few transfer windows, Hudson-Odoi could be a valuable member of the first-team setup in the seasons to come.

The report though, states that Chelsea are looking into the prospect of cashing in on the 18-year-old, who himself is reportedly looking forward to a move to Bayern Munich, who are rumoured to be prime candidates to land the winger. The Bavarians are planning to strengthen their wide options, especially adequate replacements for Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Chelsea might be able to get a handsome amount for Hudson-Odoi, with the player previously being valued by the club at around €50 million. But, Sarri could demand Chelsea hold on to the player, especially with Chelsea not in a position to reinvest the cash inflow back into the squad and reinforce the said position.

But, Chelsea might see the entire situation from a business perspective and decide to cash in on the 18-year-old, who might well be playing for a different club by the time he takes the field again.
