Chelsea academy graduate Marcin Bulka has reportedly chosen to leave the Blues and has agreed a pre-contract to move to PSG in the summer.
Chelsea have reportedly lost another hot prospect emanating from their academy setup, if the report from Goal is to be believed. Marcin Bulka’s contract was up for expiry at the end of the 2018-19 campaign and the young goalkeeper has chosen to agree a pre-contract with PSG for a summer switch to the French champions.
Marcin Bulka was a highly rated youth prospect even before moving to Chelsea. The youngster was first a part of Barcelona’s academy base in Poland but chose to sign for Chelsea in the summer of 2016. Bulka saw himself being promoted to the Under-23 setup at Chelsea the very next season but has seen his progress stalled since.
There was some hope offered to Bulka in the pre-season of the 2018-19 campaign, with the goalkeeper making 3 appearances. But, he has only appeared 5 times this season, that too for the Under-23 side. While Maurizio Sarri chose to name him in some Europa League matchday squads, he failed to make a single appearance and has not played in 2019 at all.
The lack of action has seen him grow frustrated at Chelsea and unwilling to accept an extension on his current deal, which expires in the summer. The choice makes sense, with Chelsea staffed well in the goalkeeping department and the likes of Nathan Baxter and Jamie Cumming set to be higher up the pecking order compared to Bulka.
PSG though, seemed to have wasted no time in wrapping things up and agreeing a pre-contract with the 19-year-old, who has won two English youth league titles with Chelsea. The French champions already have Gianluigi Buffon and Alphonse Areola vying to be the first-choice goalkeeper.
Bulka is expected to be the third choice behind Buffon and Areola, despite Kevin Trapp set to return to PSG after his loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt. Thus, we can expect PSG to move one or more goalkeepers off their books, with the French champions also rumoured to be eyeing a big move for Manchester United contract rebel David de Gea.
Bulka is the latest youngster to exit Chelsea, having been provided no opportunity or a chance to break into the first-team setup. Whether Chelsea rue losing the 19-year-old will depend on Bulka’s career pans out.
