Transfer News: Liverpool join David Neres chase

Liverpool are the latest club to join the chase for Ajax sensation David Neres, who is also being tailed by Arsenal and Chelsea for a summer move.

According to The Sun, Liverpool have entered the race for David Neres. The Ajax sensation has been drawing interest from the best of European clubs, with the report stating that the Reds, who are chasing their maiden Premier League title, have joined rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in pursuit of the forward.

The report also lists Real Madrid as an admirer while stating that it is Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp who has taken a liking to the Ajax star’s skill set and performances, with Neres burning a hole in top defences in the Champions League this season.

David Neres wasn’t as hyped as a teenager as other Brazilian sensations. But, the 22-year-old has stepped up well since joining Ajax in January 2017 and subsequently forging his place in the first-team setup at the iconic Dutch club. In his third full season at the club now, Neres has 12 goals and 15 assists this term, with some big goals against Real Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League.

His performances have seen him take his senior bow for Brazil and is drawing interest from the very best of clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been named in the report by The Sun while Real Madrid have also earned a mention as a potential suitor for Neres.

Arsenal do not have natural wingers in their squad and have struggled in recent games, with most of their build-up too narrow and one dimensional, something which seems to have been found out by teams recently, contributing to their dire run of results, the latest being a 1-1 draw at home against Brighton.

Chelsea fear losing Eden Hazard in the summer, with Real Madrid the prime destination for the Belgian, especially with Zinedine Zidane the manager again at the Bernabeu. The Belgian has headlined their new season kit launch but fans and pundits are still skeptical of his future at Chelsea, thus pushing the Blues to look for adequate replacements.

Liverpool are the latest entrants amid unproven reports of Mohamed Salah looking to quit the club in the summer. Even if Salah stays, Jurgen Klopp is intent on adding to his attack, something which is not ideal for Neres as it might not guarantee a starting spot at Anfield.

According to The Sun, Neres is expected to cost £35 million, an amount that will be a bargain for any of the aforementioned suitors. The 22-year-old will have an array of choices to choose his next destination from in the summer. It will be interesting to see who among Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid or some other club is able to win the lucky draw.
