Transfer News: Real Madrid on the verge of agreeing deal to sign Eden Hazard

Real Madrid are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard, who will pen a six-year contract in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Real Madrid are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Eden Hazard and Chelsea over a move in the summer transfer window. The Belgian international will sign a six-year contract with Los Blancos.

It has been an open secret that securing a move to Real Madrid would be a dream come true for Eden Hazard. The Belgian international nearly realised that dream last summer before Los Blancos pulled the plug when Chelsea demanded €200 million in exchange for their talisman, as per the report.

But, Hazard has since alluded towards the fact that he would like to play for Real Madrid one day, especially under Zinedine Zidane, who is admittedly his idol. And now, it looks like the 28-year-old is set to finally get his wish to represent the La Liga heavyweights, who have reportedly been confident of snapping him up this summer.

The report suggests that all three parties – Real Madrid, Chelsea and Hazard – are closing in on reaching an agreement over a deal for the player. MARCA also add that the Belgian winger will put pen to paper on a six-year contract, with Zidane giving his seal of approval for the same.

The need for Real Madrid to bolster their attack has been well documented over the course of this season. Los Blancos failed to fill the void left by the departure of one of the most prolific superstars in world football, Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the current campaign, Karim Benzema is the only player who has managed to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, which reflects in the club’s position at the present moment. With goals not coming regularly, the Spanish giants have seen themselves bowing out of the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey while also going out of contention for the La Liga title.

With the likes of Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez failing to be among the goals, and Vinicius Junior still very much a raw quantity, Real Madrid are in serious need to sign someone of Hazard’s talents, with the Belgian finding the back of the net more than he ever has in a single campaign.

In 41 appearances across all competitions, Hazard has a solid tally of 17 goals and 12 assists, and is by far Chelsea’s most contributor this term. Therefore, it can be argued that signing Hazard is just what the doctor ordered, as the player would not just complement Benzema, but also add to the creativity, which is another area that has been found wanting this season.

If MARCA are to be believed, Hazard could soon be on his way to Real Madrid, and it remains to be seen if that indeed is the case when the transfer window reopens in the summer, especially with Chelsea struggling to tie Hazard down to a new deal.
