Manchester United set to pay £6 million compensation package to Molde for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United have agreed a £6 million compensation package to pay Molde for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is set to become their permanent boss.

As per a report by The Sun, Manchester United are set to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a full-time basis imminently. The Premier League heavyweights are willing to pay £6 million to Molde, despite the fact that they could sign the Norwegian for free, shelling out the amount as a goodwill gesture.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at Manchester United as their caretaker manager after the dismissal of Jose Mourinho in December. Joining the club he represented for 11 years during his playing career, the Norwegian had returned to Old Trafford with the Red Devils in a state of turmoil following their worst start to a Premier League campaign.

But, what has transpired over the last three months has been nothing short of dramatically remarkable. United have recovered an 11-point gap to the top four in the Premier League and now stand a realistic chance to finish third as well, something that would have been seen as an impossible ask when Solskjaer was appointed as the interim boss.

Even more impressive has been the club’s success in Europe under Solskjaer, who oversaw an incredible comeback win over PSG in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 this week. What has also been pleasing is the fact that he has been willing to provide minutes to academy products, as was seen against PSG as well, with Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong coming on in the second half.

The turnaround in fortunes has done the 46-year-old’s chances a world of good, with Manchester United still looking to appoint a permanent manager. Earlier reports had suggested that Solskjaer has found himself in pole position to join his beloved club on a full-time basis, and The Sun confirm the same.

The report entails that Manchester United are set to appoint Solskjaer as their permanent manager in a few weeks, with Molde not expecting him to return at the end of the season. And, with the former striker not having a contract with the Norwegian club, the Red Devils are not obliged to pay them anything.

But, considering the fact that they were willing to let Solslkjaer leave in December, the Premier League heavyweights are more than happy to shell out £6 million as a goodwill gesture, when they announce the 46-year-old’s appointment as Mourinho’s full-time replacement.

All signs point towards Ole Gunnar Solskjaer becoming Manchester United’s permanent manager imminently, having proven himself with results and earning plaudits from his peers, including former United boss Jose Mourinho. And, with that, Molde would be £6 million richer as part of a compensation package.
