Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a move for Eder Militao, who is also a target for Manchester United and is valued at €50 million by FC Porto.

According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Real Madrid have set their sights on Eder Militao, having scouted the player in action for FC Porto in their recent games. The Brazilian defender is also the subject of interest from Manchester United, who are keen on landing him in the January transfer window.

Eder Militao was already being linked with a gamut of well known European clubs while he was at Sao Paulo FC. But, the move to FC Porto last summer has seen his reputation burgeon, with the player quickly establishing himself as a mainstay at the back at the Dragao.

The 20-year-old has 21 appearances across all competitions under his belt already, and has even directly contributed to four goals (2 goals, 2 assists). His exploits have earned him admirers in some of the biggest clubs in the world, with Manchester United and Real Madrid at the forefront of the list of suitors.

For Manchester United, Eder is one of several targets being considered, with defence being their Achilles Heel. And, after bolstering backline had been a priority under Jose Mourinho, it has continued to remain major area to improve upon with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in-charge as well.

So, while the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan Skriniar are known to be on the Red Devils’ transfer wishlist, Eder Militao remains a more approachable target, as far as the January transfer window is concerned. But, Manchester United are no longer alone in his pursuit, with Real Madrid also showing an interest in him.

Like Manchester United, Real Madrid are dealing with their fair share of problems at the back as well. While Raphael Varane has been visibly short of the high standards he has set for himself over the years, Sergio Ramos has not been a reliable customer either.

Add to it, the fact that Jesus Vallejo has not managed to impress Santiago Solari and Nacho being a backup option, and it is clear why Real Madrid need to sign a centre-back. Investing in a player like Eder Militao thus, makes sense, as he could learn the ropes from Ramos initially before forging a long-term partnership with Varane.

To that end, Real Madrid have been actively monitoring the 20-year-old’s progress in recent FC Porto games, although the report does not mention if they are seriously considering a January move. If they do, Los Blancos will likely be pointed towards the €50 million asking price, just like Manchester United have been.

For now, Manchester United have new rivals in pursuit of Eder Militao, with Liverpool also scouting the player. It now remains to be seen if the Brazilian ends up calling it quits at Porto after just six months, or if he remains at the Dragao till at least the summer.
