Chelsea are reportedly keen on securing the services of Nabil Fekir, and are set to table a late bid to land the French international.

According to a report by France Football, Chelsea have resumed their pursuit of Nabil Fekir as they look to bolster their squad before the transfer deadline this week. The French international was previously linked with Liverpool before the move was scuppered ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Fekir has been one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market this summer after a campaign that saw him grab a stunning return of 23 goals and 8 assists in 40 appearances. While he did not play a key role for France in their World Cup triumph, the Lyon captain remains a hot property.

In fact, it was widely believed that Fekir would join Liverpool before the move broke down. While the Reds do not hold any interest in the French international anymore, the player could still make his way to the Premier League, with Chelsea setting their sights on him.

The Blues have not been too active in the transfer market this summer, with their only big signing thus far being Jorginho. But, if widespread reports are anything to go by, attack is a priority for Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

While the famed ‘Sarri-ball’ will be coming into effect, Chelsea do look in need of goalscorers, especially with Alvaro Morata not in the best of form. Those behind him thus, need to contribute with a fair share of goals. But, other than Eden Hazard, the West Londoners do not seem to have consistent goalscorers.

So, Fekir is a viable target for Chelsea, who would have an excellent goalscoring outlet in the French international. The player can also provide the creative spark in the final third, complementing the abilities of Jorginho to good effect.

But, if Chelsea are to land Fekir this summer, they will have to swiftly complete negotiations with Lyon. With no bids lodged yet, securing the services of the French international looks like a long shot for the Blues, as two days is very little time to reach an agreement over a transfer with a notorious negotiator like Jean Michel Aulas.

What also goes against Chelsea is the fact that Fekir recently insisted that he is happy at Lyon, making a move away from the club a highly unlikely event, especially with no Champions League football on offer. The West Londoners have it all to do in the final days of the summer transfer window, and it remains to be seen if they can do the unthinkable.
