Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi could be set to end his frustrating spell at Stamford Bridge, with La Liga giants Valencia interested in signing him
According to a report by Daily Mirror, we could have already seen the last of Michy Batshuayi at Chelsea. La Liga giants Valencia are interested in signing the Belgian striker, who could be open to departing from Stamford Bridge this summer in search of regular first-team football.
Batshuayi has endured a frustrating stint at Chelsea since moving from Marseille in the summer of 2016. While the player has a fantastic scoring rate of 93 minutes per goal, he has been restricted to fending for starts in cup games thus far. By contrast, his short loan spell at Borussia Dortmund saw the player showcase his true abilities, with 9 goals in just 14 outings.
So, after two years of struggle under Antonio Conte, it is not surprising to see the young striker being linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer. His fantastic scoring record hasn’t gone unnoticed either, putting several clubs on alert. While a permanent move back to Dortmund was mooted, La Liga giants Valencia seem be leading the race to sign Batshuayi.
Los Che do have fine options in Simone Zaza, Rodrigo and Santi Mina. But, Zaza is the only player who is deployed as the main striker, while Mina and Rodrigo tend to play off him in a free role. And, as the Italian’s slump late in the season showed, another striker could be the need of the hour.
Batshuayi is thus, a fine option for the La Liga giants to consider, as someone who could not just come in when Zaza misfires, but also take over as the first-choice striker. His record at Dortmund is also proof of the fact that the 24-year-old could be ready to take on the mantle of being a regular striker at a big club, something that Chelsea might not provide him.
While it has been reported that Maurizio Sarri could be set to hand him his Chelsea lifeline and give him a key role, Chelsea’s continued pursuit of a top class striker suggests that Batshuayi still might not be a regular in the upcoming season.
Also, with Champions League football on offer at Valencia, the La Liga giants might just have the key to securing his services. If Batshuayi does leave Chelsea though, it won’t be until the Blues have signed a striker. With just over a week left for the transfer window to slam shut in England that looks unlikely and we could see the Belgian striker remain at the Bridge.
