The French Champions are chasing a raft of Premier League defenders, but are firmly targeting a move for Chelsea’s German star Antonio Rudiger.
PSG are reportedly in the chase for some Premier League defenders but would prefer to do a deal for Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger as they look to bolster their defensive options. According to The Sun, PSG are ready to take advantage of the situation surrounding the German defender at Stamford Bridge and bring in the established star.
The Parisians are hoping to make Rudiger part of their plans for the coming season, as the club hopes to compete on all fronts including the Ligue 1 and the Champions League. The PSG hierarchy, despite being happy with their current options, want to add further quality to boost the overall squad.
The idea is to have defenders signed and create a bank of at least three, to add quality depth to their squad. The Chelsea defender is considered with a view of helping the club add to the depth to play in multiple competitions throughout the coming season.
With Antonio Rudiger, they are looking at a young and highly experienced defender who is used to playing at the top level. The Chelsea man will freshen up PSG’s backline with his much-needed energy and versatility, providing them cover for central and full defensive positions if need be. PSG are also aware of a slight vulnerability in Rudiger’s situation at Chelsea and want to take advantage of the same.
The German international, only arrived only last season in a £34 million deal from Roma, looked like he fit into Chelsea’s mould perfectly. But his season did not go as expected, as his mixed performances have led the club to evaluate his future position.
Having said that, however, he helped Chelsea win the FA Cup, and played in many positions throughout the season showcasing his versatile nature. However, was unable to nail down a permanent starting position.
Chelsea might not have a problem in letting him stay at the club, considering he adds quality to their backline, but alternatively, they could fancy cashing in on the defender if PSG make a big offer for him in the summer. Chelsea will then look to re-invest the money on targets like the much expensive Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli and other potential names.
PSG are a dominant club domestically and are more or less expected to win Ligue 1 in the coming season considering the quality of their squad. But, if they are to sign Rudiger or other targets like AC Milan’s Leonardo Bonucci or Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen in the coming days, they sure will make a statement of intent to their Champions League rivals, a trophy they are so desperate to win.
