After missing out on Alisson, Chelsea have shifted their attention of Gianluigi Donnarumma as they aim to sign a desired replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are plotting a mega deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has been identified as the ideal candidate to replace the departing Thibaut Courtois. The AC Milan goalkeeper has been linked with a move away from San Siro this summer and a big money offer could persuade him to make a move to England.

Chelsea’s interest in Donnarumma initiates after their failed attempt to sign top target Alisson, who is closing in on a move to Anfield. Even though it was reported that newly appointed head coach Maurizio Sarri made personal attempts to lure the Brazilian sensation to Stamford Bridge, the Reds are on the cusp of landing his signature this summer.

This has led the Blues to search for alternatives in the market as they seek a proper replacement for the departing Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian looks to have earned himself a move from Chelsea to Real Madrid following an impressive World Cup campaign, where he secured the Golden Glove.

Los Blancos are reportedly planning a €35 million bid, which they feel should be enough to swoop him away from Chelsea. Therefore, Italian international Donnarumma has emerged as a viable target for the Blues.

Regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers in world football, the Milan youngster has been tipped as the successor to the legendary Gianluigi Buffon. Ever since his breakthrough in the 2015-16 season that saw him becoming a first-team regular at Milan, the 19-year-old has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Serie A.

However, his assured place in between the sticks could be in jeopardy in the forthcoming season following the arrival of Pepe Reina with his relationship with the fans souring as well. Although Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli has insisted that they do not intend to sell their prized asset this summer, a move away from San Siro could be a logical decision for Donnarumma.

A move to Chelsea, in particular, will prove to be a prudent one considering the fact that the Italian international can easily become the first-choice at Stamford Bridge. Swooping him away from Milan might not prove to be a tall order either, with the Rossoneri in a spot of bother at the moment as far as financials are concerned.

Even though doubts remain on whether or not will he be able to take on the mantle of becoming the number one at Chelsea next season, it’s also worth noting that the 19-year-old has already featured in over 120 competitive matches. What also makes him an appealing target is the fact that he is unlikely to cost a bomb due to the aforementioned problems Milan are going through.

Furthermore, the Italian international can also put an end to his horrific relationship with the Milan fans while a move to Chelsea will present him with the ideal opportunity to prove himself in arguably the most competitive league in the world – the Premier League.
