Real Madrid are reportedly closing in on the signing of Thibaut Courtois, who looks set to complete a €35 million move from Chelsea.

According to a report by Spanish publication Marca, Thibaut Courtois is edging closer to sealing a dream move to Real Madrid in this summer’s transfer window. Los Blancos are preparing a €35 million bid for the Belgian goalkeeper, which they feel should be enough to swoop him away from Chelsea.

Courtois has been one of several goalkeepers that Real Madrid have sought to bolster their goalkeeping department in recent transfer windows. But, he has never been a priority target for Los Blancos, until now. While David De Gea is happy and settled at Manchester United, Alisson’s asking price is proving to be prohibitive. The Chelsea stopper is thus, the most viable option.

The Belgian international has less than a year left on his current deal with Chelsea, with little progress on a renewal. While Courtois recently suggested that he is happy at Stamford Bridge, he also hinted that a move to Real Madrid could be on the cards. A move to the Bernabeu will not be a surprise, with the 26-year-old previously admitting that his “heart is in the Spanish capital”.

Chelsea would still prefer tying Courtois down to a new deal. But, the Blues know all too well that if the renewal isn’t agreed upon in the next couple of weeks, it might be too late to recoup something substantial on the player. The West Londoners are thus, open to selling Courtois, with Real Madrid likely to be his next destination.

Courtois’s arrival this summer could see Keylor Navas being slowly phased out as the first-choice goalkeeper. The move will also likely signal the end of Kiko Casilla’s Real Madrid spell. Summer signing Andriy Lunin, on the other hand, is likely to be slowly introduced into the first-team setup and should slog it out with Real Madrid Castilla till then.

Courtois will also potentially be a bargain buy, with the report suggesting that Real Madrid are poised to agree a €35 million deal with Chelsea for the 26-year-old. The Belgian shot stopper will be a huge loss for the Blues, although the club already seem to have started identifying possible replacements, with Alisson believed to be the priority.

Thibaut Courtois looks set to kickstart the next big phase of his career with a return to Madrid. Four stellar seasons with Chelsea established him as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, a status that has only heightened after his Golden Glove winning campaign with Belgium at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. A possible coup for Real Madrid at €35 million.
