Real Madrid are reportedly ready to step up their interest in Alisson, and are prepared to pay €60 million to land the AS Roma custodian this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Don Balon, Real Madrid are eager to sign a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. The European champions are set to intensify their pursuit of Alisson, with AS Roma commanding a €60 million fee in exchange for his services.

Alisson has emerged from Wojciech Szczesny’s shadow at AS Roma in fine fashion this season, taking no time to replace the Pole in terms of presence between the sticks as well as impact. The Brazilian has, in fact, been one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A, if not all of Europe, showcasing remarkable shot stopping abilities and reading of the game.

In 48 appearances across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old has kept an impressive 21 clean sheets, conceding less than a goal per game. His incredible advent has also helped him storm into Tite’s plans for the World Cup, while also drawing praise from his contemporaries.

Additionally, his exploits seem to have piqued the interest of some of the best clubs in the world, and he is all set to become a highly sought-after figure in the transfer market this summer. Leading the race to sign him, are Real Madrid, whose goalkeeping pursuits have been all too well known.

Los Blancos have now been trying to secure the services of David De Gea for three successive summer windows, albeit unsuccessfully so. With mere weeks remaining for this summer’s window to open, it is highly unlikely that De Gea will leave Manchester United, which is why Real Madrid are having to turn their attention elsewhere.

The need to sign a goalkeeper indeed appeared to be urgent, with Keylor Navas proving to be inconsistent for the most part over the last two seasons, only regaining form in recent weeks. Navas’s deputy, Kiko Casilla hasn’t shown the kind of quality to be a first-choice custodian at Real Madrid.

But, after an extremely underwhelming league campaign, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is determined to get back to the top of Spanish football. He has, thus, identified the goalkeeping slot as one of those that need bolstering, with Casilla set to be shown the exit door.

Alisson is, thus, a viable target for Real Madrid, with the Brazilian set to compete with Navas to be the first-choice goalkeeper next season, should he sign with the club in the summer. What has now brought him closer to the Bernabeu is the fact that Los Blancos are also prepared to shell out the €60 million fee that Roma have been asking for.

It will only bode well for Zinedine Zidane & co. should Alisson indeed make the move to the Spanish capital, with two top class goalkeepers vying for one spot, which should ideally bring the best out of them.
