Marcos Alonso has pledged his future to Real Madrid amid widespread speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid this summer.
As reported by Daily Mirror, Marcos Alonso has addressed speculation surrounding his Chelsea future. The Spanish defender has insisted that he will not quit the West London club to rejoin boyhood club Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Alonso came through the ranks at Real Madrid, but failed to establish himself within the first-team setup, making just one appearance for the senior side. The player subsequently represented Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland and Fiorentina before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2016, and he has come into his own at Stamford Bridge.
Over the last two seasons, Alonso has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League, and is a key figure in Antonio Conte’s side. In the current campaign, the Spaniard has shown the prolific side to his game as well, with 7 goals and 3 assists in 40 outings for Chelsea.
His performances for the Blues haven’t gone unnoticed, with widespread rumours linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Former club, Real Madrid seem to be one of these suitors, with Los Blancos reigniting their interest in the Chelsea man.
Real Madrid were heavily linked with Alonso last summer as well, before they went on to sign Theo Hernandez from Atletico Madrid. Their continued interest in the player, though, comes as a bit of a surprise, with Theo earmarked as a future first-choice left-back, and Marcelo at the peak of his powers.
Alonso, if signed, will not be a long-term solution on the left side of the Real Madrid defence, which makes the interest in him all the more baffling. But, the Chelsea superstar has addressed the speculation around his future, affirming his loyalty to Chelsea.
“I have not considered that possibility (returning to Madrid), I just try to give the best of me and my team. I made my (Madrid) debut with (Manuel) Pellegrini in 2009/10, and that summer I had the opportunity to go to the Premier League. I don’t know what would’ve happened if I stayed, I live in the present.”
Alonso’s comments do bode well for Chelsea, and it looks like Real Madrid might have to set their sights elsewhere if they are to land a left-back in the summer. The Blues though, could lose a number of other big-name players if they fail to make the top four, and will look to keep their Champions League status intact.
