Tottenham are reportedly bracing themselves for a twin summer raid by Manchester United, who are interested in Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United are ready to step up their interest in signing Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose. The Red Devils are plotting twin swoops for the Tottenham defensive duo, who are open to the switch to Old Trafford.

Alderweireld and Rose have combined to form a crucial part of the core group of players that have helped Tottenham transform into a Champions League outfit as well as genuine contenders for the Premier League title. But, the duo’s future at the North London club has been uncertain in recent weeks.

While Rose has fallen down the pecking order and is playing second fiddle to Ben Davies this season, Alderweireld is struggling to reclaim his place in the side following a long-term hamstring injury. To make matters worse, the Belgian is involved in a contract standoff with Tottenham, which has piqued the interest of Manchester United.

Mourinho already has a gamut of central defensive options at his disposal. But, rumours have been rife about Manchester United being keen to offload Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the summer, which would open up a space at the back for Alderweireld to assume.

The Belgian defender is a wily and experienced campaigner in the Premier League, who is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world. His addition would undoubtedly provide a definitive defensive boost to Manchester United, who are also interested in his Tottenham teammate Danny Rose.

Rose’s future at Tottenham has been under a cloud since his explosive comments on pay disparity at Tottenham. At Manchester United, with Ashley Young in the twilight of his career, Rose could be a fine option for several years, giving Mourinho a strong second option in addition to Luke Shaw.

Tottenham are reportedly open to the prospect of selling Rose, with Ryan Sessegnon being monitored as a long-term replacement. They could also be potentially tempted to cash in on an offer from Manchester United for Alderweireld, considering he will be available for just £25 million in 2019.

Manchester United are preparing offers for both the defenders, and this looks like a deal that could happen in the summer, despite Daniel Levy often being reluctant to sell to direct rivals. It now remains to be seen if the Tottenham duo indeed make their way to Old Trafford, with their Tottenham futures uncertain.
