Manchester United are reportedly ready to go head-to-head with Liverpool in pursuit of Borussia Dortmund prodigy Christian Pulisic.
According to a report by The Independent, Manchester United have set their sights on Christian Pulisic, and are considering a summer swoop for the American forward. Liverpool are also interested in the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid, and a head-to-head battle seems to be brewing up for the player.
Pulisic has progressed leaps and bounds since arriving at Borussia Dortmund in 2015. Initially slotting into the club’s under-17 side, the player made such rapid strides that he broke into the first-team setup only a year later, at the nascent age of 17.
Over the last two years, Pulisic has gone on to establish himself as a key member of the first-team squad at Westfalenstadion, although his performances have taken a hit of late. This season, the 19-year-old has a paltry return of four goals and an assist in 23 appearances across all competitions, pretty much in conformance with Dortmund’s faltering form.
But, the player remains highly rated despite some underwhelming form in the last few months, and he is highly sought-after in the transfer market. Liverpool are one of the suitors that have been in pursuit of Pulisic for a long time, and the Reds have now been joined by Manchester United in the race to sign him.

At Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has two fantastic wide men at his disposal in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. But, Salah is being linked with a shock move to Real Madrid, which could perhaps be the reason for Liverpool’s interest in Pulisic.
The fact that the player can also play centrally makes him an attractive prospect, even if Salah doesn’t end up leaving. But, Liverpool face stiff competition from Manchester United for Pulisic.
At Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho has repeatedly iterated the need to sign a player who can operate from the right wing, making Pulisic a viable target for the Red Devils. The player’s immense potential also bodes well for Manchester United, provided he continues growing impressively.
Manchester United are also viewing the move for Pulisic from a commercial standpoint, as the player could pave the way for a growing fanbase in USA. The Red Devils could also have a distinct advantage ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Pulisic, owing to Dortmund’s interest in Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Liverpool won’t budge so easily though, and a fierce head-to-head battle could take place in the summer transfer window. Pulisic has previously admitted that he just wants to play regularly, a prospect that he is likely to achieve at both clubs, and it remains to be seen if either ends up signing him or if Dortmund keep hold of him.
