Liverpool have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Kevin Trapp, with the German goalkeeper eager to depart from Parc des Princes in January

According to a report by French publication Le 10 Sport, Kevin Trapp is ready to call it quits at PSG, having failed to become the first-choice goalkeeper this season. The German goalkeeper could soon be on his way to Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp is willing to sign him in the winter transfer window.

Trapp joined PSG in the summer of 2015, after enjoying a fruitful three-year spell that saw him being regarded as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in January. The German shot stopper was initially the firm first-choice at Parc des Princes, making 46 appearances in his first season in the French capital.

But, Trapp has seen his role steadily reduce following the arrival of Unai Emery last season. After making 31 appearances in the 2016-17, he has been afforded a mere three outings in the current campaign, with the PSG boss preferring Alphonse Areola.

With the World Cup only half a year away, Trapp can see his chances of making the German National Squad diminishing, which is why he is ready to leave PSG in January. The player’s agent has also gone public with his wishes, revealing, “If there is a chance in the winter, Kevin wants to leave Paris.”

His next destination could be the Premier League, where Liverpool seem interested in signing him. Jurgen Klopp’s current options inspire little confidence, with both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius failing to remain consistent enough during their respective stints at Anfield.

Mignolet is currently in his fifth season with the Reds. But, while he has often shown remarkable shot stopping abilities, he has also been extremely prone to errors, as was starkly apparent last weekend against Arsenal. The same can be said of Karius too, although the German has shown signs of improvement this season.

Plus, at 24, Karius is five years younger than Mignolet and while he not only has his best years well ahead of him, he is believed to have a higher ceiling as well. So, Mignolet could be the man to be shown the exit door, with Klopp set to go in pursuit of Trapp.

While the 27-year-old, too, has been inconsistent at times, he has proven to be more reliable than either Karius or Mignolet have been for the Reds, making him a viable target. Trapp has been vocal in his appreciation of Liverpool previously, and it remains to be seen if his PSG journey indeed comes to an end in January.
