Liverpool have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in January.
According to an exclusive report by Daily Express, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the subject of interest from Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp eyeing a reunion with the Gabon international. Chelsea are also in pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund striker, and a head-to-head battle seems to be setting up for him.
Aubameyang is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, having been an instrumental figure for Borussia Dortmund in recent seasons. The player has been in some fine form since the 2015-16 season, going head-to-head with Robert Lewandowski to win the Golden Boot in Bundesliga in each campaign.
This season too, Aubameyang has been at his prolific best, scoring 17 goals in 19 outings, but his problematic ways seem to have caught up to him. The Gabonese striker submitted a transfer request in the summer, before a departure from Westfalenstadion failed to materialise.
He was recently suspended by Dortmund as well, after he reported late to training and was then sent off against Schalke last weekend. The club have now seemed to have had enough, and they are now ready to part ways with him.

With an exit in the winter transfer window set to happen in all likelihood, clubs are starting to line up for the player. Chelsea have been in pursuit of Aubameyang since the summer, and have now been joined by Premier League rivals Liverpool in the race to sign him.
Antonio Conte has struggled to find reliable striking options beyond Alvaro Morata this season, with Michy Batsuayi not managing to be consistent enough whenever given an opportunity. While Morata has been prolific for the Blues, he has admittedly struggled with the demands of playing three games a week.
With the Blues still competing on all four fronts, Conte needs to bolster his options in order to continue challenging for trophies this season, making Aubameyang a viable target. Liverpool, on the other hand, look set to lose Daniel Sturridge in January, with the Englishman eager to secure more regular game time.
With Danny Ings still some way off being considered as an option and Dominic Solanke only a bit-part player for now, Aubameyang has emerged as a top target, who could bolster Jurgen Klopp’s options up front considerably.
The bone of contention for the striker is that he will not be able to play in the Champions League when the Round of 16 commences in February. But, both clubs will be able to offer him a way out of his misery at the Signal Iduna Park while also being able to represent a top European club.
So, as Aubameyang looks destined to call time on his spell at Dortmund in the winter transfer window, it remains to be seen if either Chelsea or Liverpool succeed in bringing him to the Premier League, or if some other club steals a march on them.
