Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund next summer

According to a report by German publication Bild, Marco Reus is attracting interest from Manchester United and Arsenal. The Premier League clubs have been long-time admirers of the Borussia Dortmund forward’s talents and are considering a move for him.

Reus has long been considered as one of the best attacking players in the world, having been a key figure for Dortmund since moving from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2012. However, a spate of injuries have restricted his involvement to a great extent in the last few years.

In fact, last season the player could amass just 24 appearances in all competitions, due to several fitness concerns. But, Reus still had a strong record of 13 goals and 8 assists to show for his efforts, suggesting that the injuries have had an effect on his game.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the 28-year-old continues to remain a popular figure in the transfer market. And, two of his long-time followers – Manchester United and Arsenal are pondering over launching the offensive for Reus next summer in order to finally secure his services.

Manchester United have started the season strongly, irrespective of a slight stutter in recent weeks, and have improved by leaps and bounds since Jose Mourinho took charge last summer. Attack, in particular, has boasted a far better look, thanks to the addition of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, recent reports have suggested that Mourinho is eyeing further reinforcements in attack. Thus, Reus, with his ability to play across the front-line is a viable target for Manchester United. However, the Red Devils face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal in pursuit of the German.

The Gunners appear set to lose Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, with the latter coincidentally being linked with Manchester United as well. The two contract rebels have refused to sign the dotted line with the Gunners, and will most likely run down their contracts, which will expire next summer.

Therefore, Reus is an ideal target for Arsenal, with his undoubted qualities in front of goal as well as playmaking abilities potentially making him an asset. However, a bone of contention is his regular struggles with injuries, that could prove to be a deterrent for both clubs in the player’s pursuit.

Manchester United and Arsenal, though, are closely monitoring his rehabilitation progress. It now remains to be seen if either club indeed makes a move for Reus next summer, or if they set their sights elsewhere instead.
