Mesut Ozil is reportedly set to run his contract down with Arsenal to join Manchester United on a Bosman move next summer

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Mesut Ozil is set to snub Arsenal’s offer of a bumper new deal to run his contract down at the Emirates. Additionally, the German playmaker is keen on making the switch to Manchester United in a Bosman move to link up with Jose Mourinho once again.

Ozil is widely regarded as one of the best playmakers in the world, and has been an instrumental figure for Arsenal ever since he made his then-club record £42.5 million move from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

In fact, his form has closely resembled that of the North Londoners throughout his stint at the Emirates. In particular, this was starkly evident as a considerable dip in form mirrored Arsenal’s slump in fortunes before both the player and the club embarked on a late flourish.

In all, Ozil had a modest return – by his lofty standards – of 12 goals and 14 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions to show for his efforts. Despite such an underwhelming campaign though, the player remains a highly sought-after figure in the transfer market.

Several clubs have been heavily linked with the Germany international in recent months, with Arsenal desperately trying to tie him down to a new deal at the club. Recent reports had suggested that Ozil was likely to end his impasse with the Gunners to sign a bumper new deal at the Emirates.

But, the report by Mirror completely contradicts those suggestions, claiming that Arsenal are nowhere near reaching agreement over a renewal, with the 28-year-old set snub all offers and run down his contract with the club.

Additionally, he is keen on making the switch to Manchester United and link up with Jose Mourinho once again after their respective stints at Real Madrid. The report claims that Ozil’s advisors have sent out feelers over a possible switch to Old Trafford, and the immediate feedback has been positive.

Indeed, Mourinho is believed to be a huge admirer of the player’s talents and is open to sanctioning a Bosman move him. And while he is also attracting interest from clubs outside England, Ozil is eager to remain in the country and challenge for major trophies with a Premier League club.

The German playmaker will be free to talk to potential suitors from January, when he will be in the final six months of his contract with Arsenal. It now remains to be seen if the report indeed turns out to be true.

If so, Mourinho will have struck a coup by signing Ozil on a free transfer, who can transform Manchester United manifold even with playmaking geniuses of the likes of Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the disposal of the Portuguese manager.
