Besiktas are reportedly plotting a move to sign Diego Costa from Chelsea on a short-term loan deal.

According to a report by The Sun, Diego Costa could still bring an end to his miseries at Chelsea, albeit temporarily. Besiktas are interested in signing the Spain striker on a loan deal, with the transfer window open in Turkey till Friday night.

Costa has endured a topsy turvy spell with Chelsea after moving from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014. Although he has been one of the most prolific players in the English top-flight over the course of his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge, the stint has been not short of its fair share of controversial moments.

The aforementioned was prevalent last season as well. Costa was one of the top scorers in the Premier League, finding the back of the net 20 times while playing a key role in Chelsea’s title triumph. But, a training ground bust-up with Antonio Conte had threatened to derail his and the Blues’ campaign.

The player’s Chelsea career then effectively came to an end after the end of the 2016-17 season as Conte informed him – allegedly through a text – that he had no future at Stamford Bridge. Since then though, Costa has struggled to find a new club for himself.

The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move back to Atletico, who would then reportedly loan him on to another club till their transfer ban ended in January. However, the move failed to materialise, leaving Costa in a limbo at Chelsea, where he does not feature in Conte’s plans for the season.

However, he could still find his way out of the West London club, albeit on a temporary basis. Besiktas are keen on signing the player on a short-term loan, with the Turkish transfer window open till Friday.

The Turkish club currently have summer signing Alvaro Negredo as their only recognised striker, and Costa’s arrival could bolster Senol Gunes’ options up front. Costa’s arrival could bolster Senol Gunes’ options up front. In particular, the Spanish striker’s addition could benefit them immensely in the Champions League group stage.

With no future at Chelsea for the player, the move to Besiktas would enable him to remain match fit for a possible move to Atletico in January. More importantly for him, Costa could mount a comeback to the Spain national side by moving to Turkey on a temporary basis.

It now remains to be seen if the move materialises, enabling Costa to return to competitive action.
