Chelsea youngster Kyle Scott’s loan move to Reading has been reportedly cancelled because of Danny Drinkwater’s late transfer to Stamford Bridge.
According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea star kid Kyle Scott has been denied a deadline day move to join Reading on a loan because of Danny Drinkwater’s last-minute switch from Leicester City. Scott was hoping to make the switch in time but due to the chaos surrounding Drinkwater’s transfer, the youngster’s deal did not go through.
Kyle Scott has graduated through the Cobham academy, and is gradually blossoming into a skilled midfielder. In fact, the teenager was on the bench for Chelsea when they lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield last season, and their two opening Premier League games of the 2017/18 campaign.
The promising youngster joined Chelsea – aged 10 – from Southampton and was part of Conte’s touring party in pre-season. Scott has also played for England at the Under-16 level until he decided to switch his loyalties to the United States, for whom he has managed to represent up until the Under-20 level.
It comes as no surprise that Scott was keen on the move since he wanted to take a big step towards his development and play senior first team games in the Championship. Additionally, the experience of working to build a team’s foundation while pushing for promotion would have proven to be invaluable.
However, while the deal did not materialize this time, Reading could look at a possible loan deal in January. Antonio Conte clearly was not going to risk allowing Scott to leave without confirming Drinkwater, but now, the youngster’s chances at first-team games will take a massive hit.
Carl Jenkinson’s injury sustained while debuting for Birmingham City has reportedly scuppered Jake Clarke-Salter’s proposed move to Brum from Chelsea.
According to a report by The Sun, Jake Clarke-Salter’s move to join Birmingham City on loan was scuppered due to Carl Jenkinson’s unfortunate injury on debut. The on-loan player from Arsenal ended up dislocating his shoulder, meaning he would have to remain on the sidelines for a while.
Hence, Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp chose to sign a last-minute right-back instead of Clarke-Salter. The same report goes to state that he opted to shell out £3 million to sign Brentford’s Maxime Colin to fill the void left behind by Jenkinson since the manager already lacks options in that position.
Jake Clarke-Salter is perhaps one of the most promising young talents at present in the Chelsea academy. In fact, the player was actually on the radar of many Championship clubs and yet he chose to join Redknapp’s squad. The youngster was very impressive last season during a loan at Bristol Rovers, attracting the attention of many clubs.
A move to Birmingham could have proven to be optimum for him at this point, since he could have raked in invaluable experience playing for the senior team. Now, Jake will only hope that Antonio Conte opts to use him in West London as defensive cover at some point.
Having said that, the youngster is likely to be adamant about a move, thus making it likely for Chelsea to re-evalute his situation once the January transfer window opens.
