17-year-old wonderkid Pedro Porro has reportedly rejected the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich to sign for Girona.

A move to one of the most iconic clubs in the world is every 17-year-old footballer’s dream. However, as per Spanish publication Sport, Pedro Porro, a Rayo Vallecano academy graduate, has rejected advances of the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, to instead sign for La Liga newcomers Girona in a eye-raising move.

Pedro Porro is being touted as one of the brightest up-and-coming talents in Spain. And it is given that a talent of his stature would attract clubs like Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and even Bayern Munich, with Villarreal also lurking in the shadows.

According to the report, all of the aforementioned clubs tried to snap up the 17-year-old, submitting enquiries for the player to Rayo Vallecano. However, the player and his camp instead chose Girona in a transfer that could well transcend six figures, if all the clauses do get activated in the future.

The report states that Girona’s pursuit of Porro began as early as 2016, with sporting director of the club, Albert Siria establishing contact with the player’s agent Toni Pia in the end of the year.

It is said that the player was convinced with the potential of a faster track to the first-team setup compared to other suitors along with the relationship between Girona and Manchester City, which could lead to even greater opportunities in the near future, depending on his progress.

Indeed, the Citizens and Girona have a fledgling business relationship, with the Manchester outfit in the process of shipping out many of their prized youth prospect to aid the club’s fight for survival in La Liga this season.

The negotiations between the two clubs did run out for a lengthy time but a conclusion was nevertheless reached, much to the relief of all parties involved. While Vallecano are not receiving a hefty fee in return for the player, as mentioned above, the overall amount could exceed six figures if performance bonuses and other clauses are met in the future.

The clauses, though, are a gamble on Porro’s potential to become a future superstar, just like it is a gamble by the player, who chose to ignore the calls of such top clubs in favour of Girona. Here’s to hoping this is a gamble that pays off and pays off well for the 17-year-old.
